Item Description
This painting was done by Arthur Lismer (1885-1969), a core member of Canada's "Group of Seven." The Group, active during the period 1919-1931, are generally credited as the founders of a truly Canadian aesthetic of landscape art, depicting the land, peoples and surroundings of the young country about them instead of copying the standard Eurocentric aesthetic. Harris' style is several steps closer to realism from the paintings of Lawren Harris (also on sale at Harper's), while mainting a certain degree of abstraction in some examples of his work. He was one of the first recipients of the Order of Canada, being named a Companion (the highest grade) in the Order's founding year, 1967. Framed; 1 prim.
