Item Description
This painting was done by Lawren Harris (1885-1970), perhaps the most experimental member of Canada's "Group of Seven." The Group, active during the period 1919-1931, are generally credited as the founders of a truly Canadian aesthetic of landscape art, depicting the land, peoples and surroundings of the young country about them instead of copying the standard Eurocentric aesthetic. Harris moved gradually from purely realistic depictions to more impressionistic renditions, strong in form and bold in execution, while still remaining faithful to the goals of the Group of Seven. He was one of the early recipients of the Order of Canada, being named a Companion (the highest grade) in 1969. Framed; 1 prim.
