Vendor Customization FAQ

›› Can I modify Shop OnRez vendors?

Yes! Shop OnRez vendor prims are modifiable, so you can fully redesign the vendor for your shop. You can:

  • Retexture the prims
  • Rearrange & reshape the prims
  • Add and remove prims

›› Why does my vendor say it's no mod?

You Second Life inventory shows permissions about *everything* in your vendor. The scripts inside your vendor are not modifiable. If you rez your vendor and edit it, you'll see in the General tab that the prim permissions do allow modification.

›› What are the different types of vendors?

There are a number of vendor types you can use in world.

Standard Vendor

Searchable Vendor

BETA 8-Item Paged Vendor

  • Standard Vendor: This is a 4-prim vendor that shows 1 item at a time with previous and next buttons.
  • Searchable Vendor: This is a 6-prim vendor that works in the same way as the Standard Vendor, but users can also search for all items for sale by avatars in you OnRez account.
  • BETA Paged Vendor: Paged vendors show thumbnails for multiple items at once. Users select a thumbnail before purchasing. Paged vendors can be configured with or without a preview prim and have adjustable numbers of thumbnails. They are not searchable. Paged vendors are currently in a limited beta release.

›› What are the prims in the vendors?

The interactive prims in the vendor have special needs for customization. They can be relinked in any order except for the root prim which must always be the root prim.

1. Root Prim

Contains all the vendor's scripts. It also stores some textures you can use to customize the display prim. Touch this prim to see adminstrative options for your vendor.
You can name this prim whatever you like.

2. Next and Previous Buttons

Flips to the next or previous item in Standard Vendors and Searchable Vendors. In Paged Vendors, the Next and Previous buttons navigate through pages of items, replacing all thumbnail & preview images.
These prims should be named "Next" and "Previous" respectively.

3. Preview Prim

Shows the currently selected item. This prim is optional in Paged Vendors.
This prim must be named "Preview".

4. Search Button

Used in Searchable Vendors only. Users click the Search Button to enable search.
This prim must be named "Search".

5. Thumbnails

Used in Paged Vendors only. Users click thumbnails to select the item they want to purchase.
Thumbnail prims must be named "Thumbnail X" where 'X' is the number of the thumbnail image (starting at 1).

›› How do I retexture my vendor?

For the most part, you can simply apply new textures to the vendor. There are a few special cases where the texture changes are and require special attention.

Root Prim (Standard and Searchable Vendors Only)

The root prim on Standard and Searchable Vendors uses a vertical texture offset to display a free "button" when the current item is free and remove the "button" when the current item is not free. One cannot buy free items by paying L$0, so when a free item comes up, the offset lets customers know they can get the item by touching that root prim. The bottom half of the texture is displayed for free items and the top half of the texture is displayed for items that are not free.

This texture should be applied to face 0 of the vendor's root prim, replacing the front-facing texture on the root prim.

Preview Prim

Usually the Preview Prim will display the in-world image you chose for your item. There are two situations where for which other images must be used:

  • There are no items available for sale by your vendor
  • There is no in-world image available for display (no image was set for in the item's description)

The vendor knows what images to use for the above situations by looking to the vendor contents. You can replace the two textures in the vendor contents named "No Image Available" and "No Items Found" to customize those images. The names for the textures must remain the same. The change will occur immediately after you swap the textures -- no reset is required.

If the textures are removed from the vendor contents, the vendor will use the default images that came with the vendor.
