Dropbox FAQ
What is a dropbox? Where should I place my dropbox? How do I start using my dropbox? Why should I place textures in my dropbox? How do SL permissions work with dropboxes? How many items can a single dropbox hold? What is a dropbox?Your Shop OnRez dropbox is a scripted object inside of Second Life that stores two things for you: In order for Shop OnRez to deliver your items to a customer, the item has to be placed inside a dropbox permanently rezzed somewhere in Second Life. Where should I place my dropbox?Your dropbox must be rezzed in Second Life at all times for your items to be delivered. We recommend that you place the dropbox in a safe place where it will not be easily deleted or returned, such as land you own or rent. If you delete your dropbox by accident, you should be able to find it in your Second Life trash folder. If your dropbox gets returned, you can look in your Lost and Found (sometimes there is a delay while Second Life's servers catch up) How do I start using my dropbox? The first thing to do is name your dropbox something you understand. You can rename the dropbox in the General tab in Edit mode (if you do not see the General tab, click the "More" button). If you have lots of items to sell, you might want to use multiple dropboxes and name them based on your organizational scheme. For example, you can name them after item categories, such as Shoes, Dresses, Accessories, etc. To rename and use your dropbox, you must edit the prim in Second Life's edit mode. On a Windows machine, right click the box and select "Edit" from the wheel. On a Mac, apple-click (also called "command click") the box and select "Edit" from the wheel. To start selling, you want to drag items from your inventory into the dropbox. The dropbox supports selling objects, clothing, body parts, animations, gestures, and sounds. If you want to sell multiple items together or sell textures, notecards, or landmarks, you can box them up inside a prim and sell the boxed items. Click on the dropbox when you are complete and the website will be updated. Sign in to Shop OnRez to edit and list your items. You can drag textures directly into the dropbox's Content tab in the Edit dialog. When you click the dropbox to submit its contents, the textures will become available on the web when you edit the dropbox's items. These textures will appear on in-world vendors and kiosks. Why should I place textures in my dropbox?Shop OnRez doesn't just help you sell online -- we have powerful tools to help you sell and track your sales in-world. Shop OnRez enables customers to buy your items from in-world resources like searchable vendors and kiosks. If you want a picture to show up for an item on the website, you need to upload it to the website, but if you want a picture to show in world, then you need to drop that texture into a dropbox and assign it to the item. How do SL permissions work with dropboxes? You can set next owner permissions to be whatever you like. The key from our perspective is that you, as owner of the object, have transfer and possibly copy rights to the object. For example, if you place an item into the dropbox that you do not have transfer rights on, you will not be able to sell it. If you place an item which you cannot copy, you can sell the original which will then be transferred to the new owner. For textures, you must have full permissions on the texture. The next owner permissions can be whatever you like. Textures will not be listed for sale on the site, but are used to display your item on in-world kiosks and vendors. How many items can a single dropbox hold? You can put approximately 100 items and 100 textures each in your dropbox. However, we recommend you break your items up across multiple dropboxes for convenient organization. Think of your dropboxes like folders for filing your items. Troubleshooting My items are in my dropbox but have not appeared on the website!Log into Second Life and click on the dropbox again. It will sync up with the Shop OnRez website. My dropbox said it had 50 items to submit but then it only submitted 49 items. If you put a copy of the same item in your dropbox, it will be submitted only once. That is, if you have an object named "My Object" that you put in your dropbox and you put a second copy of it in the same dropbox, even with a different name, it is still technically the same object according to its unique identifier in Second Life. If you really want to list the same item twice, you can try putting it in a second dropbox. |
